Quantitative Research Survey and Analysis
Analysis
From my research I have found out that 2 people watch short films. Even the younger generation around 17-18 watch it which is very surprising considering that short films are not very popular with short films whereas everyone else who took the survey said they do not. Also on the favourite genre of film no one said that social realism is not their favourite genre of film which is a bit of a concern because my short film is going to be in the genre of social realism,

Discussion can be a useful tool to share thoughts and information about certain topics.
The advantages of using discussion:
The advantages of using discussion:
- Everyone can participate
- Learning is made interesting
- Training in reflective thinking
- Development of democratic way of thinking
There are also some disadvantages of have group discussions:
- It is not appropriate for all topics
- Some people may feel shy or reluctant to take part
- Maybe some people argue rather than discuss.
Overall discussions are helpful to find out what people are thinking and what their opinions are also you could find out new ideas when you put peoples ideas together.

Qualitative Research - Fanzines
Fanzines are a magazine that is usually produced by amateurs, for fans of a particular performer, group, or form of entertainment.
Question:
How might fanzines help short film producers build larger audiences/communities?
Fanzines are used as a marketing tool for short film producers. This is very significant because without these fanzines, films such as 'Spoiler' and 'The centrifugal brain project' will not be known.
These fanzines are massive help to the short film producers because they already make an audience for upcoming films as on these websites it shows what they are interested in and make it a community because everyone is allowed their own opinion and brings people who have the same interests together. This is very important for researching about short films this is because they can interact with people who also like short films and magazines that are made for independent films/short films is sight and sound. This magazine tells its viewers about independent films and gives them publicity so people will go an watch their films. These magazines and fanzines are very helpful to a short film producer because it allows for their films to be known and allows more revenue to come in for the film.
The purpose of this research is very significant because it shows that independent producers can get free advertisement for their films which can make them more well known.

The Advantages and Disadvantages of Qualitative Research
What is Qualitative Research?
Qualitative research is information that is collected in the form of opinions and views of other people.
Advantages
One advantage of qualitative research is that it measures much more detailed responses. This is important when researching a topic for a short film because then I can receive a very detailed answer which can assist in my findings.
Another advantage of qualitative research is the openness of the questions. This is very useful when researching the topic of short film because it allows the people the freedom to express their opinion about the topic of short film.
Qualitative research attempts to avoid pre-judgments so the research is as reliable as possible. This important to the topic of short films because people think short films are a waste of time of making by putting in the right questions those judgments will not come up.
Disadvantages
A disadvantage of qualitative research is that usually fewer people are studied which means that qualitative research is more time consuming. This is useful information when researching about my short film because it gives me information such as qualitative research is time consuming so maybe it might not be a form of research that might not need to be done.
Another disadvantage of qualitative research is that it is less easy to generalise because there are fewer people studied it is not possible to generalise to the population.
Finally it is difficult to make systematic comparisons because some people could give differently wider answers which are highly subjective.

Qualitative Research - Short Film Reviews
Hotel Chavalier - Wes Anderson (Short)
Good Review:
This reviewer on IMDB rated this short film a 9/10. This is very high and shows that the consumer thoroughlly enjoyed it and with that they get to give a reason why they enjoyed it this is a summary of what he said.
This person talks about how it is a beautifully short piece of enticement and that it captures a particular feel that lets the viewers into the situation. The reviewer continues on and says that the look, style and action of it is pure Wes Anderson at his best and wants there to be more directors like Wes Anderson to make more short films.
Bad Review
This person talks about how the two main actors in this short film have been miscast and that they are too young for the role. The reviewer continues on talking about the dialogue is awkward and that it makes no sense whatsoever. This reviewer says he feels cheated about the film.
Conclusion
In conclusion this film has been rated by 21,504 IMDB users and got 23 user reviews and 15 critic reviews and got rated 7.3. As a person who does not watch short films I found it quite comical because of the character which the thick mustache. But overall I found it entertaining in some aspects and would like to watch the Darjeeling Limited which is the feature to this short film.

Box Office Figures
Cirque du Soleil: Journey of Man (2000) Rating: 7.0

Alien Adventure (1999) Rating: 5.4

America! Rating: 5.7

My results have shown that even short films can make a very good box office sum as these films have made a large amounts of money for films that last under 1 hour long. I noticed in my findings that the higher the rating the higher the box office. So 'Cirque du Soleil' got rated a 7/10 and got $15 million at the box office whereas America got rated a 5.7 and got $14 million which shows in my findings that higher the ratings the higher the box office.
However the ratings of the films rely on how many people watch it 'Cirque du soleil' had over 500 people who has rated it whereas Alien Adventure had 150 people who rated it and America! had 18 people who rated this. This greatly impacts the way people see films because of their reviews.
The purpose of doing this research is because it shows a clear indication that short films, regardless of their length shows that they can still make a decent box office. This is important to my short film research because it shows that short films are still very popular and can make a very nice profit even though the budget can be a micro budget.
